Roles and responsibilities
Emergency Medicine Clinician
- •Assess the patient, complete the pathway and ensure the pathway paperwork is filled in and included in the patient's notes.
- •Discuss the patient with the MTC and refer as part of polytrauma management, or discuss with cardiothoracics if required at Step 2 of this pathway.
- •Prescribe and administer pain relief as the pathway recommends.
Orthopaedic Clinician
- •Discuss with cardiothoracics if further assistance from the specialty is needed after local admission.
- •Prescribe and administer pain relief as the pathway recommends.
- •Contact the Acute Pain Management team if analgesia Plan B or C is needed according to the pathway.
Nursing Team
- •Administer and monitor response to pain relief.
Acute Pain Team
- •Provide advice and treatment for patients on analgesia Plan B and C following orthopaedic consultation and according to the pathway.
- •Audit compliance with the guideline and recommendations at department meetings.
